MDP announces final results of Chairperson election

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) announced final results of the Chairperson election on June 15, 2026. Former President Mohamed Nasheed won with 21,063 votes (69.16%), defeating Meekail Ahmed Naseem (9,263 votes, 30.42%) and Ibrahim Mohamed (132 votes, 0.43%). Out of 50,176 eligible voters, 30,695 cast ballots across 241 polling stations, including one in Sri Lanka. Nasheed met with MDP leadership and rival Meekail after the victory. The Chairperson serves a five-year term; outgoing Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail served three years and six months.
