President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has nominated Mohamed Shakeel, Managing Director of the Hajj Corporation, for a vacant member position on the Elections Commission. The nomination was submitted to Parliament following a public application process. Mohamed Shakeel previously served as a member of the Elections Commission from December 2014 to May 2018. The vacancy arose after Mohamed Zahid resigned from both his member position and as President of the commission. The Elections Commission currently has four members: Vice-President Abdul Rahman Salah Rasheed, and members Hassan Zakariyya, Abdul Haseeb Ismail, and Riffath Abdulla. The President of the commission will be appointed by the President of the Maldives with parliamentary approval once the full membership is completed.
