Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan announced at a ceremony that the administration aims to ensure inmates become productive citizens. The Maldives Correctional Service inaugurated 10 new courses for inmates and officers, including Qira'at certificates, correctional management diplomas, and vocational training in sewing, agriculture, and electrical work. Approximately 1,400 individuals are incarcerated. Legislative amendments are being drafted to deduct one day from sentences for each day in rehabilitation. Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zareer noted progress over two and a half years.
