Avid College penalised as MQA uncovers repeated issuance of certificates without proper registration
The Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) has fined Avid College for repeatedly issuing certificates to students who were not properly registered with the institution. The college had earlier this year awarded certificates to Sri Lankan students not formally registered, and later again issued certificates to unregistered students. The MQA ordered the college not to repeat the violation and imposed a fine on the advice of the MQA Advisory Board. The authority warned that such actions risk undermining international confidence in the Maldives' higher education sector and may lead to questions over the validity of degrees from Maldivian institutions. Avid College was previously advised in January 2026 for running programmes in Sri Lanka in violation of accreditation rules. A similar case of advertising courses against MQA accreditation surfaced in December 2022.
