5,000 fined for dangerous driving in 10 months

In the 10-month period from 11 September 2024 to 8 July 2025, Maldives Police issued 5,406 fines for dangerous driving on Malé roads and the Sinamalé Bridge, with 4,566 involving motorbikes and 840 involving four-wheelers. Additionally, 30,329 warnings were given, 154 motorbike riders and 4 four-wheeler drivers were stopped, 2,088 vehicles towed for traffic violations, 5,721 for parking, and 1,142 cases of driving without licence were recorded. The statistics were released after a fatal accident in Malé on 15 July 2025 involving a 17-year-old boy. Hulhumalé Neighbourhood Police are conducting awareness campaigns.
