Addu Bridge Project Draws High Investor Interest at Investment Forum in China

Speaking at the Invest Maldives Forum in Fuzhou, China, he said major Chinese companies have expressed interest, with one submitting a proposal. The bridge will connect Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo in Addu City, which are 23 km apart. The government also seeks to develop a connection between Thinadhoo and Kaadehdhoo in Thaa Atoll, 4.4 km apart. President Mohamed Muizzu pledged to begin work on both projects within his five-year term. The design and technical study for the Addu Bridge has been initiated, with MVR 30 million budgeted in 2024. Other major projects featured at the forum include third phase of Velana Airport, Ras Malé project, Malé Commercial Port, iHavan Port and Tourism Zone, 70,000 housing units, and a hospitality institute. The forum was attended by 250 Chinese and 30 Maldivian business representatives.
