The Maldives Media Council (MMC) hosted the Journalism Awards 2022 on 25 November 2023 at the Maldives Islamic University, recognizing outstanding journalists. Ahmed Naaif from Dhauru News won Best Journalist of the Year and Best Journalist in Business Correspondence. Mihaaru News had five winners. Other category winners included Muizzu Ibrahim (Judicial and Legal), Hussain Habeeb (Sports), Amaany Abdulla (Video), Fayaz Moosa (Photo), Nazim Hassan (Political), Shahudha Mohamed (Social and Feature), Ahmed Mizyal (Investigative), and Naail Hafeez (Most Promising). Lifetime Achievement awards were given to Ahmed Zahir (34-year career, former Sun Online chief editor) and Abdulla Rameez (40-year career, PSM director). Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef spoke, expressing optimism for journalism under President Muizzu and highlighting initiatives like state media funding, a media village, and journalist training. The new MMC logo was unveiled.
