Road Development Corporation Resumes Ameenee Magu Redevelopment
The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has resumed work on segments 12 and 13 of Ameenee Magu redevelopment in Male' City. The project, initially contracted on 3 July 2022 with a 10-month duration and budget of MVR 84.4 million, faced delays due to procurement of materials. The former government's planning ministry indicated it could not be completed before the term ended because of delays in importing wide pipes for the stormwater project, a collaboration with the World Bank. Current President Mohamed Muizzu, as former mayor, criticized the project, noting road width reduction from 25 feet to 21 feet 10 inches and high costs. Flooding in incomplete sections highlighted the need for stormwater drainage.
