WHO Rescue Mission in Gaza Blocked by Isreali Forces, Staff Beaten and Harassed
The World Health Organization (WHO) expressed concern over Israeli forces detaining a medical rescue convoy in Gaza. A WHO-led mission to deliver supplies and evacuate patients from Al-Ahli Hospital in northern Gaza was halted at the Wadi Gaza checkpoint. Israeli forces detained two Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) staff members; one was forced to kneel at gunpoint, beaten, stripped, and searched. An aid truck and ambulance were hit by bullets. On the return journey, the convoy was again halted, and critically injured patients were forced out, resulting in the death of one patient due to delays. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus reported harassment and degrading treatment. Israel also launched an airstrike on Rafah, a designated safety area. Palestinian death toll since 7 October has reached 18,200 in Gaza and over 270 in the West Bank. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing criticism for conducting a political campaign during wartime, with opposition leader Yair Lapid calling for alternative leadership.
