UNODC Donates Drones to Police for Marine Operations Deployment
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) donated two advanced underwater and aerial drones to the Maldives Police Service (MPS). Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan accepted the drones, stating they will be used by the Marine Operations Division for maritime safety and security, and to ensure officer safety. The drones, funded by the European Union, are for short-range operations to bolster counterterrorism. Separately, the MNDF already has two military drones, and Maldives Customs has procured three drones expected to enter service next year.
