Housing Ministry to Handover Gedhoruveriya Flats After Legal Review

The handover of flats under the Gedhoruveriya social housing scheme will begin after a legal review of the Anti-Corruption Commission's (ACC) investigation. The ACC found approximately 60 percent of recipients ineligible and issues with 19.7 percent of applications. MP Eva Abdulla submitted a resolution to parliament urging swift handover. Opposition parties MDP and The Democrats expressed concerns over ACC involvement. The ACC completed its first phase on 1 February and met with the housing ministry on 4 February. The handover was halted in November last year but authorized to recommence on 1 February. The first 4,000 housing units by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation are nearing completion. ACC president Adam Shameel stated that FDC is outside ACC's jurisdiction to influence civil agreements.
