BML Contests Ex-President Yameen’s Civil Court Filing at High Court
Bank of Maldives (BML) contested former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's Civil Court filing seeking to address the bank's failure to deposit funds from an escrow account. BML filed a counterclaim at the High Court, asserting it was not a party and that the suit should be directed only to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The Civil Court rejected BML's position on 20 February. Yameen is serving an 11-year sentence for bribery and money-laundering related to the lease of Aarah Island in Vaavu Atoll and is appealing; he is also charged in the lease of Fuggiri Island in Raa Atoll.
