Giraavaru Reclamation Project on Track for October Completion
The Giraavaru Island lagoon reclamation project in Kaafu Atoll will be completed by October this year. The project, started in May, is a collaboration between Sri Lanka's Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company (CMCCC) and the Netherlands' Boskalis, reclaiming 169 hectares. The state-owned Fund Management Corporation will allocate 73 hectares for 5,433 housing plots under the 'Binveriyaa' Housing Scheme. The first round includes 9,003 plots total across Hulhumalé, Gulhifalhu, and Giraavaru. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih committed to handover by end of his term and also plans to connect Giraavaru to the Malé-Vilimalé-Gulhifalhu-Thilafushi bridge. The presidential election is on 9 September, with term ending 11 November.
