USAID, Marriott Forge Partnership for Socio-Economic Development in Maldives
USAID and the Marriott Maldives Business Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding under the Democracy Delivers initiative to foster socio-economic development in the Maldives. The Sister Islands partnership aims to connect resort islands with local councils, women's development committees, and private sector actors, focusing on opportunities for women and youth, including tourism excursions, local employment, waste recycling, and locally sourced agriculture. USAID is also establishing a permanent country office within the U.S. Embassy in the Maldives to facilitate development programs. This coincides with strengthened U.S.-Maldives relations, including the recent opening of a U.S. Embassy, appointment of a resident ambassador, and re-establishment of the Maldivian Embassy in the U.S. President Mohamed Muizzu met with USAID Administrator Samantha Power and U.S. Ambassador Hugo Yue-Ho Yon.
