Japan Donates 30 More Waste Disposal Trucks

The Japanese government donated 30 additional waste disposal vehicles to the 'Magey Saafu Raajje' (My Clean Maldives) Programme. The vehicles were handed over by Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim to local councils during a ceremony at the Waste Management Corporation Ltd. (WAMCO) offices in Malé on 12 June 2024. Japan will also provide waste management equipment to 25 islands. Under the programme, a total of 78 vehicles have been delivered so far, including 48 in February. Japan continues to assist Maldives in waste disposal, having also helped establish the Malé Waste Transfer Station.
