Provisional results of MDP chairperson election announced

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) announced provisional results of its chairperson election, with former President Mohamed Nasheed defeating Galolhu South MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem. Out of 48,912 eligible voters, 31,129 cast ballots. Nasheed secured 21,301 votes, Meekail 9,462, independent Ibrahim Mohamed 132, and 234 were invalid. Supporters celebrated at Artificial Beach. Nasheed contested under the slogan "Bodu Badhalu" (Big Change), launched jointly with former Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail, as part of a strategy to position Fayyaz as the MDP's 2028 presidential candidate. Nasheed also advocated constitutional reforms to separate head of state and government roles.
