MTCC awarded contract to build quay wall for Thilafushi Port
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded a contract by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) to construct a 100-metre quay wall and carry out paving works at the new port development area in Thilafushi. The agreement was signed by MPL CEO Captain Hussain Shafeeq and MTCC Managing Director DCP (Retd) Ahmed Saudi. The project includes a 100-metre quay wall, 6,775 square metres of paving works, and related infrastructure. The area will initially be used for cargo clearance operations, relocating most sea cargo clearance from Male' Commercial Harbour and Hulhumale' International Terminal. After completion of the Thilafushi Port Development Project, the area will serve as a service quay for MPL vessels. The quay wall component is valued at USD 1.17 million, and the total project cost is USD 10 million. The project is expected to be completed within 120 days. MPL aims to open the new international port in November 2027. Earlier, China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) was awarded the contract for design and survey works of Phase I, now nearing completion.
