Preliminary tallies announced in MDP leadership race

Former President Mohamed Nasheed won the chairperson election of the Maldivian Democratic Party with 21,301 votes, defeating Meekail Ahmed Nasym (9,462 votes) and Ibrahim Mohamed (132 votes). Turnout was 31,129 out of over 50,000 eligible voters. A celebratory event was held at Artificial Beach on 13 June.
