Met Office launches services at Maafaru Airport
The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has launched aviation meteorological services at Noonu Atoll Maafaru International Airport. The service was inaugurated at the Maafaru Meteorological Office yesterday. Island Aviation, which operates the airport, began construction of a new weather observatory earlier this month, expected to become the sixth such facility in the country. The upgrade will help Maafaru Airport meet WMO Global Basic Observation Network standards. The project is part of the Systematic Observations Financing Facility initiative, supported by the UNMPTF, WMO, MET Office, and UNEP. Existing observatories are located in Hulhule', Hanimaadhoo, Kadhdhoo, Kaadehdhoo, and Addu Gan, with automated stations on 20 islands.
