Severe Weather Causes Widespread Damage Across 20 Islands

Severe weather with heavy rain and strong winds caused damage across 20 islands in the Maldives on Tuesday. In Malé, 256 households were flooded, and 23 people from five families took shelter. Families on Baarah, Kelaa, Ihavandhoo, and Hoarafushi were forced to relocate. Northern islands suffered the most damage, while three islands in Addu City also sustained damage. The Met Office recorded 89.4mm of rainfall in Malé over 48 hours. The government closed all offices and schools nationwide on Wednesday.
