Revival Sports Returns to BWF Tournaments with Landmark African Tour

Revival Sports Club has returned to international badminton after a suspension, thanks to a temporary exemption from the Badminton World Federation (BWF). The team begins a three-nation African tour competing in the Zambia International, Botswana International, and South Africa International. Six athletes, including Nibal Ahmed, Zayan Zaki, and the twin sisters Fathimath Nabaha (Naba) and Aminath Nabeeha (Naby), will compete in various categories. Head Coach Nashfan Mohamed stated the suspension reset rankings to zero, making this tour crucial for rebuilding. The club aims to reclaim rankings and win gold medals. In 2024, Revival achieved historic successes, including Naba defeating Naby for Maldives' first BWF singles gold at the Botswana International.

Health Authorities Assess Potential Mpox Outbreak Risk

Health authorities in the Maldives are monitoring the spread of mpox in Africa. The WHO declared a global health emergency, and the Africa CDC labelled it a public health emergency. The Maldives' Health Protection Agency (HPA) is conducting a risk assessment, with no cases reported yet. Africa has over 14,000 cases and 524 deaths this year, mostly in Congo. A new, more transmissible strain is concerning. Children under 15 account for over 70% of cases in Congo. HPA will announce precautionary measures.
