Heavy rains cause damage to homes on several islands

NDMA reported significant damage to homes across several islands in southern and central Maldives, including Bandidhoo (Dhaalu Atoll), Kurendhoo (Laamu Atoll), and Feydhoo (Seenu Atoll). On Bandidhoo, a kitchen roof collapsed, seven people relocated. Another roof blown off, flooding and fallen trees observed. In Feydhoo, a roof torn off and ceiling collapsed. On Kurendhoo, approximately 70 homes flooded. NDMA is assessing damage and urged precautionary measures: secure roofs, turn off electrical appliances, seafarers stay informed, travelers prioritize safety.

Fisheries Ministry hands over ice plant development in two islands to MIFCO

The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources signed an agreement with MIFCO to establish ice plants and storage facilities in Meedhoo, Bandidhoo (Dhaalu Atoll), and Funadhoo (Shaviyani Atoll). The project is financed by the PSIP, valued at USD 1.6 million. Each ice plant costs USD 518,806, with an eight-month completion period. Each plant has 30-tonne capacity, storage 50 tonnes. This is part of a broader project for 11 islands. Five ice plants are funded by the Saudi Fund for Development, the rest by the government. The initiative aims to address ice challenges for fishing vessels.
