Sri Lanka ex-leader's son arrested over corruption
Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa, was arrested on corruption charges for allegedly using state funds for overseas training as a naval officer. The Bribery Commission said he rose through the ranks without qualifications and attended a course at Dartmouth, Britain's naval college, using government funds. His father, Mahinda Rajapaksa, is already accused in money-laundering cases. The arrest is part of a renewed anti-corruption drive under President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who won the 2024 election on a platform to crush corruption. Several Rajapaksa family members face pending cases.
