China Launches Diplomatic Push to Strengthen Cambodia–Thailand Peace Deal
China hosted talks in Yuxi, Yunnan province on 28 December 2025 with delegations from Cambodia and Thailand to consolidate a ceasefire and rebuild political trust. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met separately with Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn and Thailand's Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow. The talks followed a joint ceasefire statement signed on 27 December. China provided humanitarian aid to Cambodia, with a first shipment arriving on Sunday. Wang Yi supported ASEAN involvement and urged phased peacebuilding. China's Special Envoy Deng Xijun had visited both countries earlier for shuttle diplomacy. Wang emphasized that the ceasefire should be a starting point for broader peace and that China's mediation provided a platform for dialogue.
