Gov’t targets 1 million trees this year under 5 million tree programme

Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Ali Shareef announced the government's target to plant one million trees this year as part of the 5 million tree planting programme. Speaking at a World Environment Day event at Central Park, Hulhumale’, he noted that 1.6 million trees have already been planted. Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam stated that environmental protection is a key pillar of Maldives’ foreign policy and stressed the importance of sustainable environmental protection due to climate change impacts. The event also celebrated the 60th anniversary of Maldives independence and its UN membership. Participants included government ministers, diplomatic representatives, HDC officials, and Foreign Ministry staff.
