Libya Floods: Rival Governments Collaborate on the National Level
Libya's rival governments are collaborating to help flood victims in Derna after devastating flash floods caused by Storm Daniel and the bursting of two dams. Death estimates range from 6,000 to 11,000, with the mayor suggesting up to 20,000. There are shortages of medicine and clean water. The GNU (Tripoli) and the eastern government have been working together at an administrative level. Eastern Prime Minister Osama Hamad led a delegation to Derna. Libya's top prosecutor has opened an investigation into the dam collapse. Controversy exists over whether adequate evacuation measures were taken.
