Power Outage Hits Malé Hospitals; Backup Systems Ensure Uninterrupted Critical Care
A power outage on Sunday afternoon at 12:35 PM affected Greater Malé, including Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Dharumavantha Hospital, Hulhumalé Hospital, and the Maldives Blood Service. Vilimalé Hospital was spared. STELCO attributed the blackout to a technical issue, possibly generator overloads at the Hulhumalé powerhouse. By 1:45 PM, power was restored to IGMH and Dharumavantha Hospital, while Hulhumalé Hospital remained on backup. IGMH assured critical services were uninterrupted. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Hajj in Saudi Arabia, ordered a thorough investigation.
