MDP Expresses Concern Over Recurring Prison Deaths, Calls for Investigation
The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) expressed alarm over recurring prison deaths, following the suicide of a 62-year-old inmate at Maafushi Prison. MDP called for a full investigation and highlighted concerns about negligence. Earlier, 32-year-old Adam Athhar committed suicide at Dhoonidhoo Prison. The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) is investigating Athhar's death. MDP urged better oversight.
