US warns Ebola outbreak on scale of largest 'is possible'
The US CDC warned that the current Ebola outbreak in the DRC could rival the scale of the 2014 West Africa outbreak if strong interventions are not implemented. As of latest WHO figures, there are 381 confirmed cases and 64 deaths in the DRC, with the epicenter in Ituri province. Uganda has 16 confirmed cases and one death. CDC models show a 65% chance cases exceed 20,000 within three months under poor isolation levels. The WHO and African Union requested $518 million for the next six months. The outbreak was declared on May 15, but the Bundibugyo species may have spread earlier.
