US Air Force B-52 bomber crashes in California, killing all 8 on board
A US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base in California, killing all 8 people on board. The bomber was on a routine test mission when it went down at 11:20 am PDT. Col. James Hayes, deputy commander of the 412th Test Wing, called it a 'horrible tragedy'. Boeing confirmed two employees were among the fatalities. The aircraft crashed in Kern County. The B-52 typically has a crew of five, but eight were on board. The fleet of 76 B-52s is expected to remain in service for decades with modernization upgrades.
