Shuhad's family wish for Qisas in murder case
The parents of Abdulla Shuhad, killed in a 2010 clash in Fuvahmulah, expressed their wish for Qisas (death penalty) against Hassan Fareed during a Supreme Court hearing. Fareed was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court in 2015, upheld by the High Court, and appealed to the Supreme Court. The hearing concluded on November 15, 2021, with a changed bench led by Chief Justice Abdul Ghani Mohamed. The prosecution requested the death penalty be maintained. A dispute arose over Fareed's missing signature on documents, with Fareed claiming no injury prevented signing, while the prosecution said he was injured. The court ordered police to submit medical documents before the final hearing.
