Work starts on major upgrade of Girifushi Training Centre

Land reclamation has commenced for the upgrade of the Girifushi Training Centre, a major project to strengthen MNDF training capacity. The project was launched by Defence Minister Hassan Rasheed under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's direction, contracted to MTCC. Phase 1 includes reclaiming 13.3 hectares (expanding from 5.7 hectares), coastal protection, harbour upgrades (L-block quay wall, two jetties), and a new 300-metre firing range. Future plans include officer training wing, accommodation, and supporting infrastructure. The centre will serve as the main training hub for the National Service programme.

Girifushi Training Centre upgrade project officially launched

The Girifushi Training Centre upgrade project was officially launched by Defence Minister Hassan Rasheed. Initiated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the project aims to strengthen MNDF training capacity. It includes dredging, land reclamation, coastal protection, and harbour upgrades, contracted to MTCC. The first phase will add 13.3 hectares of land, expanding the island from 5.7 hectares. Coastal protection includes boulder revetments, breakwaters, and groynes. Harbour improvements include an L-block quay wall and two jetties. A new 300-metre small arms firing range will replace the current 100-metre range. Future enhancements will transform Girifushi into a modern military training centre, serving as the main centre for the National Service training programme.
