Maldives Seeks Developer for Large-Scale Solar Power Project

The Maldivian government is seeking expressions of interest for a 100 MW to 150 MW solar photovoltaic power plant with battery storage in the Greater Malé region, under a design, build, finance, own, operate and transfer (DBFOOT) model. The Ministry of Finance and Planning issued the tender. The project aims to reduce reliance on imported fuel and cut emissions. Clarifications deadline is 1 p.m. Maldivian time on 20 February, and expressions of interest are due by 2 p.m. on 27 February.

FDC to Launch Major Housing Initiative in Greater Malé

Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) announced plans to build 13,000 housing units in Greater Malé to address the housing crisis. Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel said FDC signed a framework agreement with three international banks for financing and a separate agreement with a Sri Lankan company for 3,000 social housing units. FDC also partnered with two other foreign companies for 10,000 units. Meanwhile, FDC is working on 4,000 units in Hulhumalé Phase II, aiming for completion by next year, and has resolved USD 1.2 million in outstanding payments. President Mohamed Muizzu has prioritized housing, with the 2025 budget allocating the largest share to housing.
