Maldives braces for stormy weather as MET issues white alert for 12 atolls

The Maldives National Meteorological Service (MET) issued a white alert for 12 atolls from Haa Alif to Lhaviyani in the north and Laamu to Addu City in the south, effective 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM today. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected, with wind speeds up to 40 mph. The alert is part of the ongoing northeast monsoon. Additionally, Gdh. Faresmaathodaa recorded 129.7 mm of rain yesterday. Earlier, Male' suffered severe flooding causing MVR 2.2 million in damages, the worst rain incident in its history.

Police Investigate Forgery Case Involving Imam Abdul Jaleel Ismail

Police are investigating a forgery case involving Abdul Jaleel Ismail, Imam of Salman Mosque at deputy minister level. The case was filed on the 19th of this month by the family of Hashim Mohamed, a 44-year-old businessman from Hoarafushi Island, Haa Alifu Atoll, found dead in Malé on 2 January 2022. The family alleges Jaleel forged documents to transfer Hashim's businesses to his name and that there are suspicious circumstances around his death. Police initially investigated the death but the outcome is unclear. A clash between the family and Jaleel occurred on Monday in a shop, with footage circulating on social media. Police advised resolving property disputes through civil court.
