Man in Nolhivaram who tried to pay police to dispose of drugs receives two‑year jail sentence

A man in Nolhivaram, Ahmed Ziran, was sentenced to two years, four months and 24 days in jail for offering a bribe to police officers. The incident occurred in March when Ziran arrived on a speedboat and was stopped by police for suspicious behavior. He admitted to discarding drugs and offered to pay the officers to dispose of them. He pleaded guilty and requested the minimum sentence. After deducting 15 days in remand, he will serve two years, four months and nine days. The verdict was delivered on Monday, June 19, 2026.

BML ATM service inaugurated in H.Dh. Nolhivaram

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, in partnership with Bank of Maldives (BML), launched ATM services in H.Dh. Nolhivaram. The inauguration ceremony was attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Ministers, BML Chairman Ahmed Ali Habeeb, BML CEO Mohamed Shareef, and senior bank officials. The Ministry signed an agreement with BML to install ATMs in all islands of Maldives under the government's policy to ensure financial inclusion.
