Ex-President Solih Raises Concerns Over Country’s Direction Ahead of Parliamentary Elections

Hinnavaru MP Elected Chair of IPU Democracy and Human Rights Committee

MP Jeehan Mahmood from Hinnavaru constituency has been elected Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Democracy and Human Rights Committee. She also chairs the Human Rights and Gender Committee of the Parliament. Elected from the Asia Pacific Group, she is the first member of the Maldives' legislature to hold this position. The committee examines challenges to democracy and human rights and passes resolutions annually. The IPU, founded in 1889, is a global organization of parliaments with 180 members and 15 associate members.
