MACL Imposes Parking Restrictions on Hulhule’ Island Ahead of VIA Terminal Opening

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced temporary parking restrictions on Hulhule Island in preparation for the opening of the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) on 26 July 2025. From 17 July, parking of four-wheeled vehicles will be prohibited in the east side parking zone, and from 6:00 p.m. on 17 July, parking on the west side zone will be banned. Owners must remove vehicles by those dates. Vehicles found in violation will be towed with the assistance of the Maldives Police Service. The date for resuming parking will be announced later.

Chairperson Nurain Applauds Team Efforts, Reveals MVR 75 Million Dividend at MACL AGM 2024

MACL held its 2024 AGM at Hulhulé Island Hotel, chaired by Ayesha Nurain Janah, approving a MVR 75 million dividend. MACL reported a net profit of MVR 1.1 billion in 2024, up 21% from 2023, with revenue of MVR 8.6 billion. Debt stood at MVR 13.4 billion. The new international terminal at VIA, a 78,000 m² facility designed for 7.5 million passengers annually, will open in phases starting July 26, 2025, with full operations by September 2025.

MACL Announces Countdown to Historic Launch of VIA New Terminal

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) CEO Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed announced a countdown to the grand opening of a new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) on July 26, 2025. The 78,000 m² terminal will nearly quintuple capacity to 7 million passengers annually. Modern amenities include aerobridges, advanced baggage systems, and expanded retail. The launch coincides with Independence Day. A phased rollout starts with national carrier Maldivian in July, followed by international airlines by September 2025.

MACL Contracts RDC for Repair and Maintenance of Hulhulé Island Roads

Maldives Airports Company Ltd. (MACL) signed an agreement with Road Development Corporation (RDC) for the renovation and maintenance of roads on Hulhulé Island and Velana International Airport (VIA). The contract, signed on Sunday, is the first time MACL outsourced such a project to a local company. It includes regular road renovations, construction of roads affected by seasonal flooding, resurfacing land-side roads, pothole repairs, line markings, cleaning stormwater drainage, pavements, walkways, and waste management. Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, CEO and Managing Director of MACL, and Brigadier General (Rtd.) Ali Zuhair, Managing Director of RDC, formalized the agreement. MACL aims to develop land-side roads to modern standards for a smoother and safer user experience.
