Bank of Maldives and MOPA join forces to tackle plastic waste with new recycling facility
Bank of Maldives (BML) and Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA) have partnered to strengthen plastic recycling infrastructure. Under BML's ENV POS initiative, an annex to MOPA's Material Recovery Facility in Hulhumalé Phase 2 will be established, housing heavy-duty PET grinders to convert plastic bottles into granules for export to recycling plants in India and Malaysia. BML CEO Mohamed Shareef emphasized the bank's commitment to sustainability, while MOPA President Ahmed Maumoon called the project a critical step forward in national recycling efforts. The partnership builds on BML's wider ENV POS program, which previously supported Parley Maldives in exporting plastic waste.
