Maldives Condemns Israeli Minister’s Call to Build Synagogue Inside Al-Aqsa Mosque
The Maldives strongly condemned an Israeli minister's call to build a synagogue inside Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Foreign Ministry stated that such provocative statements undermine ceasefire efforts and risk fueling religious conflict. The Maldives urged the international community to intervene to prevent changes to the legal status of Jerusalem and protect Palestinian rights. It reiterated support for a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as capital. The statement noted that Israeli military operations in Gaza have killed 40,534 people and wounded 93,778 since October 7, 2023, and that a large raid in the West Bank is ongoing.
