Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam departs to China on an Official Visit

Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam departed on an official visit to China from 10-12 June 2026 to attend the 7th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum in Kunming, Yunnan Province. She is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the forum and attend the 10th China-South Asia Expo. She will also meet senior officials of the Yunnan Provincial Government and Maldivian students in Yunnan. She is accompanied by Additional Secretary Amin Javed Faizal and Director Maryam Bassama Farooq.

China Eastern Airlines’ Renewed Maldives Operations Set to Boost Chinese Tourist Arrivals

China Eastern Airlines resumed flight operations between China and the Maldives after a suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The inaugural flight from Kunming, Yunnan Province, landed at Velana International Airport. Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal and Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin attended the ceremony. Ambassador Wang stated that the resumed service will facilitate people-to-people exchanges and tourism cooperation. As of 27 February, the Maldives had welcomed 52,995 Chinese visitors, 13.3% of total arrivals. The Maldives aims to attract over 2 million tourists in 2024, with a target to increase Chinese arrivals by 60%.
