Lahore Induces Artificial Rain to Battle Smog
Pakistan conducted artificial rain via cloud seeding in Lahore to combat severe smog. The operation used a Cessna plane to disperse silver iodide flakes over ten locations. Provincial caretaker environment minister Bilal Afzal declared it a success, improving AQI from over 300 to 189, though benefits were short-lived. Afzal plans regular cloud seeding during smog season. Climate experts like Malik Amin Aslam and Dr Ghulam Rasul warned of unpredictability and potential adverse effects like hailstorms. The transport sector contributes 50% of Lahore's emissions. Dr Fehmeda Khan advised residents to take precautions against air pollution.
