In central India, a Silicon Valley startup, ClimateAi, is pioneering an AI platform to help farmers adapt to climate change. The platform recently conducted a study in Maharashtra, India, using data on climate, water, and soil to evaluate crop vulnerability. Tomato producers were warned about a potential 30% decrease in output due to heat and drought, and they adapted by switching to more resilient seed varieties and adjusting planting times. Himanshu Gupta, CEO and co-founder, emphasised AI as a 'time and effectiveness multiplier'. Experts say AI can revolutionise various industries in fighting climate change, but concerns about energy consumption of data centers remain. Kara Lamb from Columbia University acknowledged the trade-off but stressed the positives outweigh negatives.
