Naalafushi Land Reclamation Project: Areas reclaimed ahead of the election are already eroding!

Land reclamation in M. Naalaafushi, which started ahead of the April 4 elections, has already begun to erode. MDP National Congress member Mohamed Ihusan expressed concern that the project was abandoned after the elections. The project was contracted to MTCC on September 22, 2025, for MVR 172.79 million, including reclamation of 15.48 hectares, a 993-meter bioswale, 709 meters of revetment, and a 440-meter groin, with a 720-day completion timeline. Ihusan noted that many public welfare initiatives have stalled, increasing hardship for residents.

Multiple Development Projects Completed in Meemu Atoll

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih marked the completion of various development projects in Meemu Atoll, including new health centre wings, powerhouses, water supply networks, and coastal protection. Projects were inaugurated on six islands: Mulah, Dhiggaru, Raiymandhoo, Kolhufushi, Muli, and Naalaafushi. The water supply networks were funded by Indian Exim Bank's US$800 million line of credit, and coastal protection was financed through the Green Fund.
