700 individuals in queue for court-mandated drug treatment: NDA
The National Drug Agency (NDA) reported 700 individuals requiring court-mandated drug treatment, with a backlog since 2018. CEO Imad Solih said a special operation has been initiated to fast-track treatment, aiming to complete within four months. Plans include resuming operations at the drug treatment center in HDh. Hanimaadhoo and extending services to Noonu Belidhoo and Laamu Atoll. The NDA is now under the Homeland Security Ministry, reflecting the government's view of drug issue as a national security concern. Chief Superintendent Ahmed Shakir said 54 individuals involved in theft and robbery under drug influence have been identified in the city and are being directed towards treatment.
