The Maldives participates at the 62nd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council
The Maldives is participating in the 62nd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, from 15 June to 7 July 2026. The delegation, led by Ambassador Dr. Salma Rasheed, will deliver national statements on several agenda items. As part of the Core Group, the Maldives will present a combined resolution on renewing the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers and on a thematic issue related to judicial independence. The Maldives, as a member of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, expressed concern about increasing human rights violations worldwide. It will address issues including the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel. The Maldives concluded its third term as a Human Rights Council member in 2025 but continues active engagement.
