ACC Investigating Ras Malé Project

HDC Denies Suspending Work on Ras Malé Project

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has denied reports that land reclamation for the Ras Malé project at Fushidhiggarufalhu has stalled. Sri Lanka's Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMC) was tasked with the development on 18 December last year. President Muizzu Launches Maldives’ Largest-Ever Land Reclamation Project ‘Ras Malé’

President Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the Ras Malé land reclamation project on 18 December 2023 at Fushidhiggaru lagoon. The project will reclaim 1,150 hectares, nearly three times the size of Hulhumalé, making it the largest land reclamation in Maldives history. The city will be elevated two meters at edges and three meters at center to address climate change. Features include an airstrip connected by bridge, targeting 'Maldives Eco City' with 100% renewable energy and zero-carbon transport. The contract was awarded to Sri Lanka's Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMC). The government allocated MVR 1.4 billion over three years, with MVR 400 million for 2024. President Muizzu pledged completion within eight months.
