Rasfannu reopens again, after oil spill cleanup
Rasfannu Artificial Beach in Male' reopened to the public on June 15, 2026, after being closed due to an oil spill. The beach had just reopened on June 12 following a major renovation by MTCC under the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, but was closed again on Sunday evening when oil washed ashore. The Male' City Council announced the cleanup was complete and the beach was open again. Rasfannu is a popular swimming area but has faced repeated closures due to poor water circulation and sewerage issues.
