Maldivian arrested in secret broadcast network raid in Sri Lanka
Sri Lankan authorities arrested two suspects, including a Maldivian national, after raiding an alleged illegal television and radio transmission centre near Ratmalana International Airport. The raid was carried out by the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau with telecommunications authorities. The operation allegedly ran secretly under the guise of a travel company. Investigators seized equipment valued at nearly Rs. 50 million, including satellite receivers, dishes, computers, a Starlink unit, and transmission devices. The group allegedly obtained data services to download and redistribute TV and radio broadcasts without authorization to subscribers in Sri Lanka and overseas.
