Reykjanes Re-Erupts: Iceland’s Volcanic Eruption Spree Continues
A volcano erupted on Iceland's Reykjanes peninsula, sending lava up to 80 meters, closing the Blue Lagoon, and damaging thermal water pipes affecting over 20,000 people. The Civil Protection Agency raised the alert to emergency. An emergency pipeline is under construction. This is the second eruption in 2024 and third since December. Preceded by earthquakes, the eruption is a fissure type. Previous eruption on January 14 lasted two days. Scientists warn eruptions could persist for decades.
