Palau: first country to ban 'reef toxic' sun cream
Palau has become the first country to ban sunscreen that is harmful to corals and sea life. The ban, announced in 2018, takes effect Wednesday and prohibits sunscreen containing 10 ingredients including oxybenzone and octinoxate. President Tommy Remengesau stated the environment is the nest of life. The International Coral Reef Foundation noted the chemicals are toxic to juvenile wildlife. Hawaii and other places have announced similar bans.
